First, we must acknowledge, honour and worship our Father who is in heaven. We must hallow his name by which are called, saved, healed, delivered and blessed everyday of our lives. Secondly we must stop and submit to his kingdom its rule over our lives .When I pray for Gods kingdom to come, I am saying that I desire to be a citizen of His kingdom, I must then invite his will to be done in my life and in my world as it is done in heaven. That covers the Vertical dimension of prayer, the one that points up towards our God.
The next is the horizontal dimension and the first need to be addressed is daily bread. This covers not just the food we eat but the array of resources we need daily to service our lives.
Our Lord Jesus alluded to this when He said in Mathew 6:31 (NKJV) Therefore do not worry, saying ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear’ Our daily bread is inclusive of the entirety of our daily supplies, for life. Having dispensed the supplies, the prayer addresses the horizontal relationship we have with others in the world. Forgive us our sin is a plea not to enter into judgment with us like King David prayed in Psalm143:1-2 (NKJV) Hear my prayer, O Lord, Give ear to my supplication! In Your faithfulness answer me, and in Your righteousness. 2 Do not enter into judgment with your servant, For in Your sight no one living is righteous. The reason is that each time God enters into judgement with us, He will find us guilty as King Solomon noted in his prayer in 1 Kings 8:46(NKJV)
46 “When they sin against you(for there is no one who does not sin), and you become angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, and they take them captive to the land of the enemy, far or near;…. “forgive us our trespasses” is a plea to God to cancel the debt we owe before Him. Immediately after that comes the obligation we have, each of us who desires to be cleared of our debt before God, to clear the debt of anyone and everyone who is indebted to us. Simply put the prayer says, if you want God to forgive you, take steps to forgive anyone and everyone who is indebted to you. Our lord Jesus spelt it out bluntly in Mathew 6:14-15
(NJKV) 14“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your father forgive your trespasses. The truth revealed here by our lord Jesus is that love is impossible without forgiveness. This is the revelation that comes from John 3:16-19 (NKJV) 16 For God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believe in him will not perish but have everlasting life 17 For God did not send His Son to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believe in the name of the only begotten son of God.19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men love darkness rather than light, because their deed were evil.”
Forgiveness is the only way to reunite man and God In a living and loving fellowship that is wholly beneficial to man.
What our lord Jesus taught is that what operates between God and Man must operate between a man and his fellow man and by implication all of humanity.
Let us enter into the wonders of God’s forgiveness by embracing the pardon He gave through the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ Our lord and Saviour. Say with me if you will: Our Father in heaven, I worship and adore you and I hallow your name. Please forgive me all my sins and bring you into the Kingdom through your Son Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus I believe that you died for my sin. I receive God’s forgiveness through your blood of sacrifice and I confess you now as my lord and savoir. Thank you for your forgiveness. I ask for grace now to forgive anyone and everyone that has offended me, no matter who they are and no matter what they did to me. I thank you for lifting this burden of anger, Frustration, bitterness and pain, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
God’s forgiveness in Christ is the gateway to freedom from the penalties of my sins. My forgiveness of others ensures that I can retain my own forgiveness before God.
